At the Dana-Farber International Patient Center, our Financial Clearance Team will work with you to help you plan for your expenses. Our goal is to provide you with the most accurate cost estimate for your services and treatment. Our International Finance Team members are available as your main point of contact for questions related to finance, whether you are covered by international commercial insurance, embassy-sponsored, or paying for your own care. 

We partner with Brigham and Women's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital to provide complete and integrated care for our adult and pediatric international patients. If you receive services at these institutions or services from outside vendors, you will receive a separate bill directly from these partners.

Initial Appointment Cost

If you are paying for your care with your own funds, you will receive an initial cost estimate prior to your appointment and will be required to pay the entirety of your estimate prior to your visit. This estimate typically covers the cost of your consult and pathology processing and review and takes 48 hours from the time the request for cost estimate is received. Payment in full is required before pathology can be processed and before the consult can take place. The deposit represents an average charge for your services and is considered an estimate only. You will receive a bill for the balance of charges exceeding the estimate or a refund should the charges for your services end up being less than your deposit.

Cost of Treatment

After you and your doctor agree on a treatment plan, you will receive a cost estimate from the Dana-Farber Financial Clearance Team. This estimate is based on the treatment plan provided by your doctor and uses historical charge averages from similar treatment plans or conditions to generate your total cost. Your actual charges may be higher or lower than the estimate.
We understand that expenses related to your care may be stressful, so please contact our team with any financial questions.

Statements and Payment

You will receive monthly statements starting approximately three to four weeks after your visit. If you do not receive a statement, please reach out to us and we can provide you with an itemized copy of your charges and amount due. If charges for your treatment are greater than your deposit, your statement will show an amount due.

Note: Our hospital does not accept payments through payment apps including Apple Pay, PayPal, etc.

Refund

If your service costs are lower than your deposit amount, you will receive a refund at the conclusion of care. Your refund will be remitted to the original form of payment used to make the upfront deposit.  Please allow up to three months following the end of your care to receive your refund.
